There is no place like Home.

Updated: May 5, 2020

I always like to take part in the Embroiderers' Guild members challenges and this year the theme was HOME. What does HOME mean to you? conjured up so many ideas, but I decided to take it literally and try to evoke my present home and everything that makes it so special.

"Home to me is my current house – where I live with Mr P, where my children grew up and where they still love to return.

I absolutely adore where we live which has the perfect balance of rural beauty (we can hear skylarks from the bedroom window) and proximity to the city.

In my piece entitled “Home is my Sanctuary” I aimed to bring together the most important elements of what home means to me by combining free machine and hand embroidery with simple imagery. I used only vintage, inherited and found fabrics including scraps of fabric meaningful to my family. Everything was then stitched to a vintage antimacassar inherited from my mother in law.

I wanted to reflect that my home is already filled with everything I really need and I don’t have to possess new things to make me happy and content."

The entries were exhibited at the Knitting and Stitching Show at Alexandra Palace, 10th - 13th October 2019.
